May 2012
From the Metro North Principal’s Desk . . .
I can hardly believe that this is the last newsletter for the school year! It seems like the school year has just flown by. The children have all gotten taller and have advanced academically. I have been especially impressed with their reading progress! Please be sure to continue reading with them throughout the summer to keep those skills sharp.
I know that many of you have been wondering about class lists. During May, the teachers will be working hard to place every child in the classroom that is best for him/her. They know your child well and will consider many factors including your child’s personality, the teaching styles and personalities of the teachers in the next grade level, balancing the make-up of each class so it includes learners at different levels as well as a balance of boys and girls, and balancing the different personalities of students within each class. Each child is considered individually and placed with a teacher with great care. Some of you have turned in written request for a certain teacher. We will honor those if we can, but they are not guaranteed. At this point, we don’t know for sure how many sections of each grade level we will have or exactly who will be teaching where. We hope to have that information soon.
There will be a different look to our music programs next year. We have decided to have separate programs for each grade level. This will help with seating and parking and each program can be geared to be more appropriate for the age of the students performing. Each grade level will give one evening performance. If you like to plan ahead, here is the tentative list of dates for next year:
· Grade 3: October 8
· Grade 2: November 12
· Grade 1: January 28, snow date Feb. 4
· Kindergarten: March 25
Registration dates for next year are August 7 (7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) and August 8 (2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.). Registration will be held at Northfield. The first day of school for 2012-13 is August 14.
Have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
